female genital mutilation..

what is female genital mutilation??well, 2 some ppl it means nothing..some of it who know the word will make it sound like it would start up world war 3.. n the other lucky ppl who know this term would actually hav their own opinion n would know the good n the bad of this act..k..female genital mutilation..it is a procedure involving partial or total removal of the external female genital exclusively for tradition or religious purpose..the thing is, it is not 2 their own consent 2 do this procedure..so we c this as a violation of a human right..in the past several decades, there hav been many efforts by the world health organization(WHO) 2 end the practise of female genital mutilation n till now there is no full stop..

female genital mutilation is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women..it reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes n constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women. .it is nearly always carried out on minors and is a violation of the rights of children. .the practice also violates a person's rights to health, security and physical integrity, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death..

amnesty international estimates that over 130 million women worldwide have been affected by some form of female genital mutilation, with over 2 million procedures being performed every year..it is mainly practiced in African countries..it is also practiced by some groups in the Arabian peninsula.

Some African societies consider female genital mutilation part of maintaining cleanliness as it removes several parts of the female genital..vaginal secretions, in reality, play a critical part in maintaining female health..in some areas of Africa, there exists the belief that a newborn child has elements of both sexes..in the male body the foreskin of the penis is considered 2 be the female element meanwhile the female body the clitoris is considered 2 be the male element. Hence when the adolescent is reaching puberty, these elements r removed 2 make the indication of sex clearer..

Female genital mutilation is often used as a means of preservation and proof of virginity, and is regarded in many societies as a prerequisite for honorable marriage..the husband will sometimes cut his bride's scar tissue open after marriage to allow for sexual intercourse..women who have had genital surgeries are often considered to have higher status than those who have not and are entitled 2 positions of religious, political and cultural power.. feminists n human rights activists generally disapprove of the practice because they view it as presupposing that women lack the self control or the right to decide when and with whom they engage in sexual activity.

Till now..UN still working on stopping the practice once n for all..they develop an international monitoring bodies n resolution that condemn the practice..it revised legal framework n growing political support 2 end female genital mutilation..its shown that if practising communities themselves decide to abandon female genital mutilation, the practice can be eliminated very rapidly.
